Join Rabbi Yitzi for this first-time course in the holiday history series as we explore the history and development of the high holiday services and prayers.

PART I explores the story of the Machzor, how did it come to be and who were its authors. When did they live? What events shaped their lives, and ours? This will be a journey through time.

PART II delves into the services themselves. What is their structure? What are its ‘building blocks’? And beyond that, the bigger questions. What is prayer all about? Why is it so long? A journey through ideas.

In PART III, we take a tour of the Rosh Hashana liturgy, stopping to examine and learn more about selected prayers, some that are familiar, like Avinu Malkeinu, others less so, like Upad Me’az

PART IV does the same for the Yom Kippur service, From Kol Nidrei and its controversial past, through the Avodah and its relevance for today, to the peak experience of Ne’ilah.

This course is also available on Zoom on Tuesday evenings

instructed by the Rabbi.
